How do I check a mover is legitimate?

A mover crossing state lines must have a USDOT number. Look it up on the federal FMCSA site (search "Protect Your Move" or SAFER) and check it's active and matches the company's name.

Ask directly: are you the carrier, or a broker who sells the job on?

Read recent complaints, not just the star rating.
