Will my couch fit through the door?
Four measurements, in inches. The answer changes as you type.
Ways to make it fit, biggest gain first
- Take the legs off. Usually 3 to 6 inches, and the most common fix.
- Take the back off, if it unbolts. Many sofas and most sectionals do.
- Take the door off its hinges. About 1⅜ inches, and the stop molding another ½.
- Hook it through. Stood on end with the seat facing the frame, a sofa curls around the frame and can pass a door narrower than its depth. Ask the movers.
- Another way in: a patio door, a wider entrance, or a window.
The app remembers each piece and each doorway, checks the turn out of the hallway too, and tells the movers before the day. No account, and it works with no signal.
How to measure
- Door width: open the door all the way and measure inside the frame, from the door's face to the frame on the other side. A door that can't open fully gives you less.
- Length, depth, height: measure at the widest points, including the arms and the legs.
- Why only two numbers matter: a couch is carried long end first, so the end that has to pass the opening is its depth by its height. Turned on its side, those two swap. That's the whole check.
